Never before have there been so many children. Of the 6 billion people living on our planet, nearly 2 billion are under 18. Never before have they been so vulnerable. Most of these little ones live in developing countries, without many of the things that we take for granted: clean water, sufficient food, shelter, adult supervision, medical care, an opportunity for education…. If you are a child in the world today, there is a good chance that you are vulnerable, facing grave risks on a daily basis. Many of the world’s children are poor; they are orphaned, homeless, and exploited. They are overwhelmed, they are distressed, and they quickly become hopeless.
